An entrepreneur at heart, Roland leveraged his passion and knowledge of technology to become a founder of several startups in his young career. Coupled with a sense of adventure, love for all aquatic-sports, an international upbringing, and a diverse appreciation of music, lead to the creation of: a scuba diving center in Los Cabos, Mexico – San Diego’s first Music & Technology Conference featuring panels & DJ events – a strategic consulting firm aiding proprietors grow their small businesses - and a hybrid factoring/VC business that backs upcoming musicians cleverly named the First Bank of Rock. Roland is currently developing and doing business development for a SDK that allows mobile applications (iOS & Android) to become contextually aware through mobile heuristics & sensor fusion in Qualcomm Labs.
Living in San Diego a block from the beach, Roland is able to enjoy all the adventures America’s finest city provides. Some weekends he jet-skis from Mission Bay to La Jolla and Coronado on his SeaDoos, hikes the waterfall trails in East County, commutes 30 miles to work by bike weekly, and struggles with CrossFit daily. His other interests include his new photography hobby and addiction to HDR images, attempting to learn to cook Paleo, and reading the latest Hacker News & Reddit posts – all of which he writes about on his blog.
Roland travels often to the Bay Area to visit his girlfriend Cameryn who attends the University of San Francisco School of Law. Together they love to explore San Francisco, discover new wines in Napa, and sample some of the best sushi on the West Coast.
When he can find the time, he enjoys sleeping too.
